Top five Tips for getting a CRM implementation right

IT Security is back in the headlines again....

Over the weekend, another security alert has been raised, this time over a gap in the security of Microsoft Exchange.  Just another thing for IT departments and business leaders to worry about.

What all businesses need to understand is that IT security is and will remain a significant issue for everyone. It won't go away and it affects every kind of business, not just online businesses.

So what can be done about it?

Firstly, you need to ask who is actually responsible for your IT Security? when was it last reviewed? When was it last tested?

Secondly, you need to ensure all your systems are up to date and all the latest patches (updates) have been applied to all systems. Who is practically doing this? Good practice says that updates should be applied every 2 weeks or immediately if they are critical. This is a significant activity for any IT department. Who is doing all of this?

Thirdly, what training have you given your staff on how to spot threats and attempts at hacks? Regular advice and training needs to be given to all staff and tests can be used to see if staff have learnt from this training. Has any of this been done?

Finally, if the worse comes to the worse, do you have insurance? Many insurance companies now include incident teams who can help you in times of crisis. Does your insurance company offer this?

IT security is an on-going issue which companies must address. Pretending it won't happen or not having a risk strategy for it will not make it go away. Like any risk to your business, there is nothing you can do which will make the problem go away. what you need to do is make sure you are taking the right steps to minimise the risk and that you have the right insurance in place if the worse happens.
